Attested Quality and Reliability
V850 is the world wide Number 1 selling MCU in 2008 and has retained its position in 2009. Its performance, quality and reliability have been attested. V850 MCU has a large portfolio, including automotive specific MCUs, motor control ASSP and general industrial MCUs.
High Performance, Low Power, Available in Small Packages
V850ES is a line of high performance 32-bit microcontrollers that is energy efficient and available in small packages. The V850ES core is an enhanced 5-stage pipeline that achieves more processing per clock cycle. At 1.9DMIPS/MHz, it can compete task in a shorter time, allowing the MCU to operate at a lower frequency. The benefit is less power consumption and ease of EMI testing. Within an extensive product family, there is a line of general purpose MCUs, some with USB and ethernet connectivity, that are available with packages as small as a 40-pin 6mmx6mm QFN package and 64-pin 5mmx5mm BGA.

V850ES/Jx3-L Low Current Consumption

High Density, High Quality Flash with Error Correction Code
Leveraging the quality level of automotive industry, V850ES microcontrollers employ Flash memory with Error Correction Code that corrects a bit error. With the enhanced reliability, there has never been a Flash retention failure. In addition, the V850ES Flash has different level of security to protect the software, safeguarding from tampering.
Safety Features Supporting High Quality, High Reliability Systems
V850 microcontrollers supports a Bootswap mechanism to ensure fail-safe firmware update even during power failure. The Watch Dog Timer uses an Internal, dedicated oscillator. Moreover, it is a Windowed Watch Dog Timer that catches abnormally frequent Watch Dog reset.

V850E2/Sx
The evolution in car infotainment systems and networking within the car requires the introduction of protocols such as Ethernet and MOST (Media Oriented System Transport) to support high bandwidths and reliable data transfers. This is in addition to the well-established automotive networks such as CAN and IEBus (Inter Equipment Bus) also supported by Renesas' V850E2/Sx family of MCUs.

The V850ES/Fx has a V850ES low power CPU core and enhanced peripheral functions for automotive body control such as CAN and LIN interfaces.
