Zero wait state access to flash memory at 100 MHz. The feature of Renesas flash MCUs that is the reason for their success is their high speed, which allows them to fully exhibit the performance of the MCU itself. In the past, compared to other companies' flash MCUs, Renesas flash MCUs have always led the industry in operating speeds. Currently, Renesas flash MCUs achieve zero wait state access to flash memory when operating at 100 MHz.
Figure 2: MCU and Flash Memory (MCU internal memory) Operating Frequencies Efforts Towards Increasing Memory Capacities and Development of the Next Generation MRAM Technology Along with faster operating speeds, increasing flash memory capacity is also important. Renesas is also working aggressively to increase on-chip flash memory capacities. Renesas is currently developing MCUs that integrate flash memory with the large capacity of 4 MB on the same chip. MRAM technology has the features that there is, in principle, no limitation on the number of write operations and data can be written quickly. Renesas is targeting the development of MCUs with on-chip MRAM (MRAM MCUs).
